Why are in-state and out-of-state costs the same?
Because RPI is a private university, it charges the same tuition rate regardless of residency. Families don’t “win” savings here through state lines — they win it through aid.

What costs will we actually get billed by RPI?
The biggest billed items are tuition and housing/meals (if your student lives on campus). Things like books, transportation, and personal spending usually aren’t billed by RPI, but they’re included in the federal Cost of Attendance budget.

If my student earns an ROTC scholarship, can it reduce housing costs?
It can. RPI’s ROTC information highlights room-and-board support for certain ROTC scholarship recipients, which can meaningfully reduce the cost side that families often overlook.

Do we need a separate scholarship application for RPI merit aid?
Usually, no. RPI’s common merit awards (Leadership/Merit/Recognition) are typically awarded automatically during the admissions review. Your student’s best “application” for merit is a strong admissions file submitted early.

If test scores don’t affect merit, why do some students still submit them?
Test scores can still help with admission to RPI, especially in competitive majors. However, once admitted, RPI has stated that test scores are not the primary factor used to determine merit scholarship eligibility or award size.
