Applying early does not buy more money. Loyola says Early Decision, Early Action, and Regular Decision all get the same merit and financial aid consideration. ED is binding, so only use it if Loyola is the clear first choice and the numbers already work.
The FAFSA is due the same day as the application. For Early Decision I and Early Action, both the application and the FAFSA are due November 15. A lot of families file the FAFSA weeks later and wait longer for their aid package.

Does merit money cover housing?
No. Loyola’s merit scholarships can only be applied to tuition. Housing and food get covered by need-based grants, state aid, loans, or your own budget.
Are there costs that are not in the table?
A few. Nursing (BSN) students pay a $1,500 annual program fee. First-year student health insurance is $2,406 unless you waive it with your own coverage. First-time residents pay a $45 housing damage deposit. Books, travel, and personal spending are on top of that.
Do we need to file the CSS Profile?
No. Loyola uses the FAFSA only for U.S. students and says FAFSA filers should not submit the CSS Profile. That is one less form than many private colleges require.

What GPA does my student need for the Presidential Scholarship?

Do the $3,000 grants stack with merit?
Yes. Loyola says the Magis, Legacy, Family, Baltimore Diocesan, TAM, Community College, and Phi Theta Kappa grants can each be combined with all other Loyola grants. They apply to tuition and renew for eight semesters with a 2.0 GPA.
Is the Charm City Promise a full ride?
Not exactly. It meets 100% of demonstrated need up to tuition plus a standard dorm and meal plan, but the package can include federal loans and work-study. Students who commute only get tuition covered. Your student must be Pell-eligible and have attended a Baltimore City public, charter, or Catholic high school for at least three years.
We live in Maryland. Is there extra money?
Possibly. Loyola matches the state Guaranteed Access Grant for lower-income families and the Teaching Fellows for Maryland Scholarship for future teachers. Both start with the state, so file the FAFSA by March 1 and watch for emails from the Maryland Higher Education Commission.
I work at another college. Should we use Tuition Exchange or FACHEX?
Run the numbers first. Tuition Exchange covers 85% of tuition and FACHEX covers 100%, but both replace every Loyola scholarship and grant. If your student would already get $45,000 in merit plus a $3,000 grant, the exchange benefit may be worth less than it looks. Spaces are limited, decisions come by April 1, and Loyola recommends not applying Early Decision if you are counting on either one.
Are there awards for current students?
Yes. The financial aid office gives donor-funded endowed scholarships to sophomores, juniors, and seniors (seniors first), and the Student Success Fund helps with emergencies. One catch: Loyola says an endowed scholarship can reduce your existing aid package.
Loyola calls it the Honors Program, not an Honors College, and the most important thing for parents to know is this: it does not come with scholarship money. What it offers is small discussion seminars that replace the regular core classes, close faculty mentors, and a tight group of friends. It works with every major.
How to get in: A separate application with two essays, opened with your student’s Loyola portal login after they apply to Loyola.
Deadlines: December 15 (Early Action, answer by February 1) or February 15 (Regular Decision, answer by April 1).

Hyman Science Scholars: Computer science, math, statistics, data science, and physics. Need-based scholarships up to $10,000 a year. Due December 1 (Early Action) or February 1.
Empowered Scholars: Biochemistry, biology, chemistry, engineering, and forensic science for high-need students. Up to $15,000 a year. Due December 15 or February 1, with the FAFSA.
Ignatius Scholars: A free summer head start on campus for first-generation and high-need students, with room and board covered and a small stipend. Students apply after depositing.
Honors Program FAQs (Loyola University Maryland)
Does the Honors Program come with a scholarship?
No. Loyola is clear that getting into Honors and getting merit aid are separate decisions. Honors students receive the same merit tiers as everyone else.
Is it hard to get in?
Loyola describes admission as extremely selective. The program looks for students who took the most demanding classes their school offered and who genuinely enjoy learning for its own sake. Being admitted to Loyola, or receiving a big merit award, does not guarantee a spot.
Will Honors slow down my student’s major?
It should not. The Honors courses replace the regular core requirements rather than adding to them, and Loyola says the program accommodates every major, including nursing and engineering.
Can my student do Honors and Sellinger Scholars or Hyman at the same time?
They are separate applications, and nothing on Loyola’s pages says a student must choose one. Check with each program about how the course requirements fit together.
Loyola is a Jesuit university of about 3,900 undergraduates on a leafy campus in North Baltimore. It feels like a small liberal arts college, but it sits inside a real city with real internships. What it does best is turn students into professionals: business, speech-language pathology, nursing, and the pre-health track are where Loyola’s name carries weight.
Nationally Known Program: Sellinger School of Business and Management: Business is the single biggest group of degrees at Loyola, spread across finance, marketing, accounting, and more. Sellinger holds AACSB accreditation for both its business and accounting programs, which was renewed in 2026, and the Sellinger Scholars program gives top business students an honors track of their own.
Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences: One of Loyola’s most popular majors, feeding into a graduate speech-language pathology program that U.S. News ranks nationally. Students who want to become speech therapists can stay for the master’s.
Nursing (BSN): A direct-entry program where students are admitted straight into nursing as first-years. Seats are limited, so apply by November 15 (Early Decision I or Early Action), and budget for the $1,500 annual nursing fee.
Engineering: Small classes and hands-on design work. U.S. News ranks Loyola No. 82 among undergraduate engineering programs at schools that do not offer a doctorate.
Psychology and Communication: Two of the largest majors on campus, both with strong internship pipelines into Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
Pre-Health and Pre-Law: Loyola says its students get into medical and dental schools at rates well above the national average. Its Class of 2025 seniors reported a 100% law school acceptance rate.
Outcomes: Loyola reports 99% of graduates are working, in graduate school, or in full-time service within six months. Federal data shows a 79% six-year graduation rate.
