🎓 Getting In vs. Getting Paid

Weber State is open enrollment, so admission is rarely the hard part, and in-state freshmen can even apply for free. The real game here is the money. Weber hands out its freshman merit using a single “index score” built from your student’s high school GPA and best ACT or SAT composite. About three out of four Weber freshmen send in ACT scores, and the middle half land between a 17 and a 24, so a solid test day can move your student up a tier.

🚨 Easy-to-Miss “Gotchas” at Weber State (Read This First)

  • Test-optional for admission is not test-optional for money. The merit index is calculated from GPA and the highest ACT or SAT composite. Skip the test and your student is effectively skipping the automatic scholarship. There is no superscoring.
  • The Presidential comes with homework. The top in-state award covers full tuition and general fees, but your student has to complete 3 Honors credits during freshman year to keep it.
  • Out-of-state families get one discount, not two. The nonresident academic awards cannot be combined with WUE, the 100 Mile reduction, or the Alumni Legacy waiver. Price out each one and take the biggest.
  • Dec. 1 is the real deadline for Utah seniors. It is the in-state priority date for Scholarship Universe, the WUE priority date, and the concurrent enrollment switch date. The Feb. 1 date only covers the index awards.
  • Academic awards pay tuition only. Except for the Presidential, they don’t touch fees, books, or housing, and they only apply in fall and spring.

💰 Cost of Attendance at Weber State University: 2026–2027 Rates

Figures verified against official sources in October 2026.

📅 Planning for 2027–2028? These are the 2026–2027 rates, the newest Weber State University has published. Colleges usually release next year's costs in the spring, and we update this page when they do.

Budgeting tip: costs typically rise 2% to 5% a year. For 2027–2028, plan on roughly $300 to $800 more than the in-state total below. $500 to $1,400 more than the out-of-state total below.

In-State: billed cost per year
$16,152
Tuition, fees, housing, and meals for two semesters
Tuition & mandatory fees $6,580
Housing & meals (typical) $9,572
Total billed cost $16,152
Out-of-State: billed cost per year
$27,140
Tuition, fees, housing, and meals for two semesters
Tuition & mandatory fees $17,568
Housing & meals (typical) $9,572
Total billed cost $27,140

That is $10,988 more per year than Utah residents pay, before any waivers or scholarships.

Average federal net price: $11,333 per year. This is what first-time, full-time students who received grant aid paid after grants and scholarships, for in-state students only, based on the most recent federal data. It counts books and living costs, so it can run higher than the billed total above. Families who got no grants are not in this average, so many middle-income families pay more. New to Net Price & SAI? Read our guide.

Out-of-state families: this average does not include you. Run the college's own net price calculator for a number based on your situation.

📌 Regional Tuition & Waiver Options

Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE): Students from Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, Wyoming, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands can pay 150% of Weber's resident tuition instead of full nonresident tuition. It requires a 2.0 GPA, full-time enrollment (12 to 18 credits) and a Scholarship Universe application. Spots are limited and the priority date is Dec. 1.

100 Mile Nonresident Reduction: Students whose legal residence is within about 100 highway miles of campus can have half of the out-of-state premium waived for up to 8 semesters.

Alumni Legacy: Children of Weber State graduates (associate degree or higher) with a 2.5 GPA pay in-state tuition for their first year.

None of these can be combined with Weber's nonresident academic scholarships, so price out each option and take the biggest one.

Two Money-Savers Most Families Miss

The tuition plateau: Weber charges the same tuition for 11 credits as it does for 18. A student taking 15 or 16 credits a semester is basically getting classes for free and finishing sooner. Watch the upper-division bump: Once your student passes 60 credits, rates go up a bit, and upper-level business courses carry an extra $30 per credit hour.

FAQ: Cost of Attendance at Weber State University

What does a Utah freshman actually pay at Weber State?
For 2026-27, full-time tuition and fees for a first- or second-year Utah resident come to about $6,580 for the year. On-campus housing and food runs anywhere from about $4,024 to $9,572 depending on the setup, so the direct bill lands somewhere between roughly $10,600 and $16,150. The federal average net price after grants is about $11,333.

How much is WUE at Weber State?
WUE students pay 150% of resident tuition plus regular fees. Using the 2026-27 lower-division rates, that works out to roughly $9,460 a year, compared with about $17,568 at the full out-of-state rate. Spots are limited, you need a 2.0 GPA, and the priority date to apply through Scholarship Universe is Dec. 1.

Is WUE or a Weber academic scholarship the better deal for out-of-state students?
You can’t have both, so do the math. A Mt. Ogden award ($9,000) brings tuition and fees to about $8,570, which beats WUE. Golden Spike ($8,250) lands around $9,320, roughly a tie. Waterfall Canyon ($7,500) leaves about $10,070, so WUE wins there. Students from non-WUE states don’t have the choice, which makes the academic award the main lever.

We live close to Utah but not in it. Is there a break?
Yes. If your legal residence is within about 100 highway miles of Weber, the 100 Mile Nonresident Reduction pays half of the out-of-state premium for up to 8 semesters. That brings the 2026-27 lower-division bill to about $12,070 a year for tuition and fees. It is competitive, needs a 2.0 GPA, and can’t be combined with an academic award.

One of us graduated from Weber. Does that help an out-of-state student?
It can. The Alumni Legacy Nonresident Scholarship lets the child of a Weber graduate (associate degree or higher) pay in-state tuition for their first year with a 2.5 GPA. After that year, the student may be able to apply for Utah residency. Like the other incentives, it doesn’t stack with academic awards.

Does time spent on WUE count toward Utah residency?
No. Weber is clear that time spent in Utah on WUE can’t be counted toward establishing resident status, so plan on WUE pricing for all eight semesters if that’s your route.

Is the $11,333 net price realistic?
It’s the federal average for full-time freshmen who received grant or scholarship money, and it includes housing, food, books and personal costs. A Utah student living at home with an index award can pay far less. An out-of-state student living on campus with no award will pay more.

Automatic Merit Scholarships at Weber State University

Data last verified Jun 17, 2026.* GPA/test bands are estimates based on official selectivity and prior cohort profiles. "Who Actually Wins" insights are pulled from external peer-sourced data where students and parents have reported real-world award results. Because colleges can change funding thresholds and deadlines at any time, always verify these details with the institution before finalizing your application strategy.

Note: Index ranges are set each year, and Weber publishes its index chart as an image on the financial aid site. Students get one academic award. The Sterling Scholar award is the exception and can be added on top, up to the cost of tuition.

Automatic Merit FAQs (Weber State University)

How does Weber’s scholarship index work?
Weber plugs your student’s cumulative high school GPA and best ACT or SAT composite into a chart that spits out one number. For Utah residents, 99 to 104 earns the Success award ($1,000/yr), 105 to 113 Merit ($1,500), 114 to 121 Deans ($2,000), 122 to 127 Trustees ($3,500), and 128 or higher the Presidential (full in-state tuition and general fees). Out-of-state students use a separate chart: 90 to 104 for Waterfall Canyon ($7,500), 105 to 114 for Golden Spike ($8,250), and 115 or higher for Mt. Ogden ($9,000).

Do we really need an ACT or SAT score if Weber is test-optional?
For admission, no. For the automatic money, yes in practice, because the index is built from GPA plus a test composite. If your student is anywhere near a tier line, one more test date can be worth thousands over four years.

Does Weber superscore?
No. Weber uses the highest single composite score. For out-of-state students using the SAT, only the math and reading sections count.

What’s the catch with the Presidential Scholarship?
It’s a great award, worth about $26,000 over eight semesters, and it covers general student fees too, not just tuition. The catch is that your student has to register for and pass 3 credits of Honors classes in their first year (one 3-credit class or three 1-credit classes), plus stay full-time with a 2.5 GPA.

My student did a lot of concurrent enrollment. Does that count?
It can. The Concurrent Enrollment EDGE award ($2,000/yr for four years) goes to Utah students who finished at least 9 CE credits with a 3.0 college GPA. It’s an either/or with the index awards, so Weber gives whichever is bigger. Get the CE transcript in by Dec. 1.

We’re transferring from a community college. Is there automatic money?
Yes, but timing matters. Utah residents with 30+ credits and a 2.75 GPA can get the Academic Distinction award ($2,500/yr for three years) with a Feb. 1 priority date. Out-of-state transfers can earn $4,000 to $9,000 a year depending on transfer GPA. Those are given first-come, first-served all year, so apply as early as you can.

Are these awards renewable?
Yes. Freshman awards renew for up to eight semesters and transfer awards for six, as long as your student stays full-time (12 credits) with a 2.5 WSU GPA. The Presidential also requires the first-year Honors credits.

🏆 Flagship Scholarships (Competitive Scholarships)

Weber State does not run a big essay-and-interview “flagship” scholarship competition. Its largest awards are the automatic index scholarships and Dream Weber for Pell-eligible Utah students. The rest of the money comes from departments, donors and activities through Scholarship Universe, covered in Hidden Gems below.

✅ Can You Stack Scholarships at Weber State?

Aid Type Stacks with an Academic Award? Weber Parent Translation
Index Scholarships N/A Your student gets one academic award, the tier the index lands in.
Concurrent Enrollment EDGE No Either/or with the index award. Weber gives the bigger one.
Sterling Scholar Yes Adds $1,000 or $2,000 for one year, up to the cost of tuition.
WUE / 100 Mile / Alumni Legacy No Out-of-state families pick the single biggest discount.
Activity Waivers Yes Music, theatre, debate, ambassadors and more can be added on top, up to the cost of tuition.
Dream Weber / Pell / State Grants Yes Dream Weber fills whatever tuition and fees are left after other aid.
Donor & Departmental Awards Usually These are the gap-fillers for books, housing and fees. Apply through Scholarship Universe every year.

If your student is hunting for a big, interview-style full ride, Weber isn’t that kind of school. What it does offer is a very low sticker price, a predictable index system, and one of the most generous need-based programs in Utah. For a lot of families that adds up to a cheaper four years than a “prestige” scholarship somewhere else.

This institution does not offer designated Competitive scholarships at this time.

❓ Competitive Scholarship FAQs

Does Weber State have a full-ride scholarship?
Not a merit full ride. The Presidential covers full in-state tuition and general fees, and Dream Weber covers the same for Pell-eligible Utah residents. Housing and food are still on the family. Army ROTC can add housing money for some cadets, but WSU says those scholarships are currently limited.

Are the out-of-state transfer scholarships competitive?
Weber calls them competitive, but in practice they’re first-come, first-served by date of admission and awarded year-round. Earlier applications have a better shot before the money runs out.

Is Weber a National Merit or Stamps school?
No. Weber doesn’t offer a National Merit package and isn’t a Stamps partner.

Where do the essay-based scholarships live?
Almost all of them are in Scholarship Universe, Weber’s one-stop application. Your student fills out a profile, gets matched to donor and department awards, and applies to the ones that fit. Some need short essays. Our Essay Toolkit and Brag Sheet Builder can help get those ready.

🧠 Parent Strategy: Scholarship Universe Is the Whole Game

The index award shows up on its own. Almost everything else at Weber (Dream Weber, WUE, activity waivers, donor and department awards) runs through one system: Scholarship Universe, found inside the eWeber portal.

  1. File the FAFSA right after it opens Oct. 1. Weber uses it to match students to need-based awards.
  2. Fill out the Scholarship Universe profile completely. It takes 30 to 60 minutes, and every question answered can unlock more matches.
  3. Apply to every match by Dec. 1 (Utah seniors) or Feb. 1 (everyone else).
  4. Accept awards by July 1, and come back every year. Current students must reapply.

Parent translation: many of these awards go first-come, first-served. A complete application in November beats a perfect one in March.

💎 Hidden Gem Scholarships

These aren’t automatic, but they’re where Weber gets truly affordable. Some are need-based, some reward activities, and a few are tuition breaks for out-of-state families that never show up on the main merit chart.

It is a last-dollar award, so it fills whatever Pell, state grants and donor scholarships leave on the tuition bill. Utah residents can also bring state money to Weber. These come from the Utah System of Higher Education, not the university, and most layer on top of Weber’s own awards.

Start with your state. The awards in this first group come from the state, not the college. They are decided by residency and the FAFSA, and they stack on top of whatever automatic merit award the college gives below. If you live out of state, use the toggle above and these will step aside.

❓ Hidden Gems FAQ

Who qualifies for Dream Weber?
Utah residents who qualify for a Pell Grant, take 12 or more credits, and have fewer than 150 credit hours. It covers full resident tuition and general fees for up to eight semesters. Weber’s financial aid pages mention a $50,000 household income guideline, while the Dream Weber page itself only lists Pell eligibility, so apply if you’re anywhere close.

My student is already at Weber. Is there money for current students?
Yes. Current students can apply each year for GPA-based waivers. Utah residents can get 50%, 30% or 15% off tuition and general fees at a 3.75, 3.5 or 3.0 GPA. Nonresidents can get $7,600, $4,600 or $2,300. They’re competitive and based partly on how early you apply. Despite the “Honors” name on two of them, they have nothing to do with the Honors Program.

What are activity waivers?
Tuition waivers for students involved in things like music, theatre, dance, debate, Model UN, the student newspaper, KWCR radio, admissions ambassadors or athletics. Your student contacts the department directly, keeps a 2.5 GPA and 12 credits, and can combine the waiver with an academic scholarship up to the cost of tuition.

What if my student runs into money trouble close to graduation?
Weber’s CATapult Scholarship exists for exactly that. It’s for current students who have finished at least half of their graduation requirements and hit a financial roadblock. Contact the Financial Aid & Scholarships Office right away instead of sitting out a semester.

Is there anything for high school seniors besides the index award?
The Richard Richards Institute for Ethics gives $1,000 scholarships to seniors committed to Weber who write a strong 500-word ethics essay. The 2027 deadline is March 5. Utah seniors with AP, IB or concurrent enrollment classes in math, science and English should also look at the state Opportunity Scholarship.

Honors Program at Weber State University

Weber’s Honors Program is refreshingly open. It’s not a separate college with a high bar to get in. It’s open to every major and every class standing, and there’s no GPA requirement for the main pathways. Students take smaller, discussion-style Honors (HNRS) classes and build a portfolio over their time at Weber.

  • Foundation Honors: 10 credits of HNRS courses plus the Honors Portfolio, spread across the degree.
  • University Honors: Foundation Honors plus 5 more HNRS credits.
  • Departmental Honors: Available in majors with an Honors contract. Requirements vary and may include GPA, research, service or leadership.

Why Honors Matters for Utah’s Top Students
  • Presidential Scholars: The full-tuition Presidential award requires 3 Honors credits in the first year, so these students are already halfway in the door.
  • Activity waiver: Honors is on Weber’s list of activity waiver scholarships, so it’s worth asking the program about.
  • National awards: The Honors office also helps students chase national and international scholarships.

Honors Program FAQs (Weber State)

Is it hard to get into Honors at Weber?
No. There’s no GPA requirement for Foundation or University Honors, and any major can join. Departmental Honors may have a GPA requirement set by the department.

Can an incoming freshman win an Honors scholarship?
Not right away. The Foundation scholarship requires students to already be in the pathway and have at least 1 HNRS credit before applying, so it usually starts in the second year.

Does my student have to take Honors classes to keep the Presidential?
Yes. Presidential Scholars must complete 3 Honors credits during their first academic year.

Do Honors scholarships stack with other aid?
Weber doesn’t publish a restriction. Most families should expect them to sit on top of other awards, but confirm with honors@weber.edu before counting on it.

⭐ College Specialty

Weber State sits on the east bench of the Wasatch Mountains in Ogden, about 30 miles from Hill Air Force Base. It’s a career-focused university. Most degrees here lead straight to a job, and the school is built for students who want to work while they study, with day, evening and online options.

Nationally Known Program:
Dumke College of Health Professions: Health programs account for roughly a third of Weber’s bachelor’s degrees. The college serves more than 8,000 students on and off campus, with programs in nursing, radiologic sciences, respiratory therapy, dental hygiene and more. It also runs an agreement with the military’s Medical Education Training Center in San Antonio.
  • Nursing: One of the largest nursing pipelines in northern Utah, from associate degree through the doctorate.
  • Engineering, Applied Science & Technology: Computer science, mechanical engineering technology and other engineering programs with close ties to the aerospace and defense employers around Hill AFB.
  • Automotive Technology: A rare four-year automotive degree with long-running manufacturer training partnerships.
  • Professional Sales: Weber says it has the only four-year professional sales program of its kind in the Western U.S., and its students compete and place at national sales competitions.
  • Business & Criminal Justice: The Goddard School of Business & Economics and a criminal justice program that feeds local and state agencies.

✅ Wrapping It Up

Weber State is one of those schools that doesn’t try to dazzle you with a flashy full ride. It just quietly keeps the bill low. A Utah freshman starts at about $6,580 a year in tuition and fees, and the index scholarship knocks that down further based on grades and one good test day. If your family qualifies for a Pell Grant, Dream Weber can take tuition off the table entirely.

For out-of-state families, the trick is picking the right discount, because you only get one. Run the numbers on WUE, the academic award, the 100 Mile reduction and the Alumni Legacy waiver, then take the biggest. And whether you live in Ogden or Oregon, get the ACT or SAT done, file the FAFSA early, and finish Scholarship Universe by Dec. 1. Families who do those three things usually find Weber to be one of the best deals in the West, especially for nursing, health professions, engineering technology and sales.
