  • Middle 50% SAT: 1160-1370
  • Average GPA: N/A

Embry-Riddle Prescott is a small private campus in the mountains of northern Arizona, and almost everything about it points at the sky: flight training, aerospace engineering, intelligence and cyber work, space physics. About 7 in 10 applicants get in, and enrolled students who sent scores mostly landed between a 24 and a 30 on the ACT. You won’t see an average GPA above because Embry-Riddle accepts weighted GPAs and doesn’t convert them to a 4.0 scale, so it doesn’t report one.

One thing to know up front: Embry-Riddle doesn’t take the Common App. Your student applies through Embry-Riddle’s own application, and the January 15 priority date matters for scholarship money as much as for admission.

🚨 Easy-to-Miss “Gotchas” at Embry-Riddle Prescott (Read This First)

  • Flight training is not in the tuition bill. Future pilots pay as they fly, roughly $20,000 to $30,000 a year while they’re in flight courses. A Cessna 172 runs about $233 an hour, plus $87 an hour for the instructor. Embry-Riddle’s merit scholarships and ROTC money can’t be used for flight costs.
  • Test-optional for admission is not test-optional for money. Embry-Riddle says scores are highly recommended for scholarship consideration, and strong scores can raise the merit award.
  • Scholarships are first come, first served. Merit is awarded automatically after acceptance, but Embry-Riddle’s admissions FAQ says scholarships go out on a first-come, first-served basis. Applying in the fall of senior year, well ahead of January 15, is the safe play.
  • You won’t know the merit amount until the letter shows up. Embry-Riddle doesn’t publish its scholarship tiers or cutoffs. Run the Prescott Net Price Calculator early so the award letter isn’t your first look at the real price.
  • Two years on campus, with a meal plan. First-year students must live on campus for two academic years and buy the required meal plan, so about $18,000 a year in housing and food is baked in from day one.

FAQ

Is this college test-optional? Yes, for admission. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Prescott) is test-optional for admission, but scholarships can work differently (see the next question).

Do you need test scores for scholarships at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Prescott)? Test-optional for admission, but Embry-Riddle says scores are highly recommended for scholarship consideration and strong scores can raise the merit award.

What is the middle 50% ACT/SAT? ACT: 24-30; SAT: 1160-1370.

Average net price? About $41,864/year after aid.

Does this school use waivers/reciprocity? No. It is a private school, so everyone pays the same rate.

💰 Cost of Attendance at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Prescott): 2026–2027 Rates

Figures verified against official sources in October 2026.

📅 Planning for 2027–2028? These are the 2026–2027 rates, the newest Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Prescott) has published. Colleges usually release next year's costs in the spring, and we update this page when they do.

Budgeting tip: costs typically rise 2% to 5% a year. For 2027–2028, plan on roughly $1,300 to $3,300 more than the total below.

✔ Same price for every student, no matter which state you live in.

All students: billed cost per year
$65,574
Tuition, fees, housing, and meals for two semesters
Tuition & mandatory fees $47,574
Housing & meals (typical) $18,000
Total billed cost $65,574

Average federal net price: $41,864 per year. This is what first-time, full-time students who received grant aid paid after grants and scholarships, based on the most recent federal data. It counts books and living costs, so it can run higher than the billed total above. Families who got no grants are not in this average, so many middle-income families pay more. New to Net Price & SAI? Read our guide.

✈️ The Line Item That Isn’t on the Table: Flight Training

If your student is going for the Aeronautical Science (flight) degree, the table above is only part of the bill. Embry-Riddle charges flight training separately, and you pay after each flight or simulator session. Its 2026-2027 estimates for Prescott look like this:

  • Years 1 and 2: about $23,000 to $33,000 per year
  • Year 3: about $10,000 to $15,000
  • Hourly rates: Cessna 172 about $233/hour, Diamond DA42 twin about $443/hour, instruction $87/hour

Add it up and a future pilot can spend $56,000 to $81,000 on flying over the degree, on top of tuition, housing and food. Students who need extra lessons will spend more.

FAQ: Cost of Attendance at Embry-Riddle Prescott

Is Embry-Riddle Prescott cheaper for Arizona residents?
No. Embry-Riddle is private, so a student from Arizona pays the same $45,888 tuition as a student from Texas or New York. The only in-state edge is Arizona state aid like AzLEAP, which is small and limited to Pell-eligible residents.

Does Embry-Riddle Prescott take WUE (Western Undergraduate Exchange)?
No. WUE discounts apply at participating public colleges, and Embry-Riddle is private. Every student pays the same published tuition before scholarships.

How much does flight training cost at Embry-Riddle Prescott?
Plan on roughly $20,000 to $30,000 a year while your student is in flight courses, mostly in the first two years. It’s paid as you go, not on the tuition bill, so it hits your budget differently than the rest of college.

Can financial aid or scholarships pay for flight training?
Partly. Embry-Riddle’s merit scholarships and ROTC scholarships can’t be used for flight costs. Aid left over after tuition, fees, housing and food (often loans) can be applied to flying. That’s why many pilot families end up borrowing for the cockpit even when merit covers a good chunk of tuition.

Do engineering students pay more?
A little. Embry-Riddle adds about $674 a year in program fees for engineering students. Students in the uncrewed and autonomous systems program pay a $420 lab fee.

Is living on campus required?
Yes. First-year students are required to live on campus for their first two academic years and buy the required meal plan. That’s where the $9,800 for housing and $8,200 for food come from.

Are there other costs families forget?
Health insurance. Embry-Riddle enrolls every student in its health plan (about $2,000 for the year in 2025-2026) unless you waive it by showing comparable coverage. Pilots also need an FAA medical certificate before flight classes start.

Is the average net price really around $41,900?
That’s the federal average of what families paid after grants and scholarships. It’s high compared with many schools because Embry-Riddle’s sticker price is high and it isn’t a big-endowment school. It also doesn’t include flight costs, so pilot families should add those on top.

📅 Embry-Riddle Prescott Scholarship Timeline (Simple Version)

  • Fall of senior year: Apply for admission. Merit is automatic, but it’s handed out first come, first served.
  • January 15: Priority date for fall applicants. Treat it as the latest you want to apply, not the target.
  • March 1: Embry-Riddle’s FAFSA priority date.
  • March 15: Boeing Scholars and most special-interest scholarship applications (VEX, FIRST, CyberPatriot and others) are due.
  • November of freshman year: The donor scholarship application opens for current students. Priority date is March 1.

Parent rule of thumb: at a first-come, first-served school, the earliest date on this list is your real deadline.

Automatic Merit Scholarships: Embry-Riddle Prescott

Every admitted first-year student is automatically reviewed for merit, with no separate application. Embry-Riddle looks at GPA, SAT or ACT scores and class rank. What it doesn’t do is publish the tiers, amounts or cutoffs, so you won’t find a chart that says “a 3.8 and a 28 gets you X.” The award notice arrives after the acceptance letter. To get a preview, run the Prescott Net Price Calculator.

⚠  Spouse or dependent of an Arizona officer
For the spouse or a dependent under 27 of a currently employed Arizona law enforcement or correctional officer. Embry-Riddle is one of the private colleges on the participant list. ✘ Not stackable
Every admitted first-year student is reviewed automatically. Embry-Riddle weighs GPA, SAT or ACT scores, and class rank from the admission application. It does not publish tier names, dollar amounts, or cutoffs, so the only ways to see the number are the scholarship notice after acceptance or the Prescott Net Price Calculator.

💡
Strategic Detail
Embry-Riddle says most institutional scholarships do not stack, so a student keeps one institutional award. Pell, AzLEAP, ROTC and outside scholarships can still sit on top, up to the cost of attendance. This award cannot be used for flight training costs. Keeping it requires a minimum GPA, but Embry-Riddle does not publish the number, so check the award letter.
🕵
Who Actually Wins
Students with strong grades who submit test scores and apply early. Embry-Riddle says scholarships are awarded first come, first served, so a student who applies in March can get less than an identical student who applied in December.
Data last verified Oct 29, 2026.* GPA/test bands are estimates based on official selectivity and prior cohort profiles. "Who Actually Wins" insights are pulled from external peer-sourced data where students and parents have reported real-world award results. Because colleges can change funding thresholds and deadlines at any time, always verify these details with the institution before finalizing your application strategy.

Note: Embry-Riddle says most institutional scholarships don’t stack, so a student keeps one institutional award. Pell, Arizona state aid, ROTC and outside scholarships can still sit on top, up to the cost of attendance. Merit can’t be used for flight training.

Automatic Merit FAQs (Embry-Riddle Prescott)

How much is the Embry-Riddle merit scholarship?
Embry-Riddle doesn’t publish the amounts or tiers. Each admitted student gets a number based on GPA, test scores and class rank. The Net Price Calculator is the best preview before you apply.

Do I need to apply separately for merit?
No. Embry-Riddle reviews every admitted student automatically. Students are notified after acceptance, and the scholarship appears on the financial aid offer.

Should my student send SAT or ACT scores?
If the scores are strong, yes. Embry-Riddle is test-optional for admission, but it calls scores highly recommended for scholarship consideration and says strong scores can mean more merit money.

Does applying early really change the money?
It can. Embry-Riddle says scholarships and housing are awarded first come, first served. Two students with the same grades can end up with different offers if one applied in October and the other in February.

What are the Golden Eagle and Diamond Eagle scholarships?
They’re Embry-Riddle’s top institutional awards. Embry-Riddle mentions them by name on its alumni pages, but it doesn’t publish amounts or criteria. They aren’t something your student applies for; they show up (or don’t) in the merit offer.

Can Arizona students get extra money?
Pell-eligible Arizona residents may get the AzLEAP Grant, up to $2,500 a year (most awards are about $1,200). Embry-Riddle picks recipients from the aid package, so the only “application” is filing the FAFSA early.

Is the merit scholarship renewable?
Yes, with a catch. Embry-Riddle requires students to keep a minimum GPA to hold onto scholarships but doesn’t publish the number. Find it on the award letter and write it down. Changing majors or dropping below full time can also affect the award.

🏆 Flagship Scholarships (Competitive Scholarships)

Embry-Riddle Prescott doesn’t have a big full-tuition or full-ride competition like many universities do. The biggest money is the automatic merit award. The competitive scholarships are smaller and aimed at specific students: future pilots through Boeing Scholars, and kids who compete in robotics, cyber or rocketry.

Donor money here tends to go to the cockpit. In 2026, a donor-funded award, the Christopher P. Rushing Memorial Scholarship, paid $75,000 toward one incoming Prescott pilot’s flight training. Embry-Riddle hasn’t said whether it will be offered every year, so we don’t list it below. Ask the admissions office if your student is a future pilot.

✅ Can You Stack Scholarships at Embry-Riddle?

Aid Type Stacks with Merit? Parent Translation
Automatic Merit N/A Embry-Riddle says most institutional scholarships don’t stack. Expect one institutional award.
Boeing Scholars / Special-Interest Ask first These are worth applying for, but ask financial aid whether they add to merit or replace part of it before you count both.
Alumni Legacy / Endorsement Grants Often yes Small add-ons ($1,000 to $1,500 a year). The Endorsement Grant isn’t available to Golden Eagle or Diamond Eagle recipients.
ROTC Yes, with rules Air Force ROTC winners are guaranteed at least $8,500 a year from Embry-Riddle, or their merit award if it’s bigger. Army ROTC winners get room and board help. Neither pays for flying.
Pell, AzLEAP, Outside Scholarships Yes These sit on top of merit, up to the full cost of attendance. Embry-Riddle encourages students to apply for as many outside scholarships as they can.

Pays $5,000 to $7,500 a year for two years and renews for year two with a 3.0 cumulative GPA. The Boeing Scholars program page lists a flat $7,500 a year while the Prescott scholarship listing gives the range, so plan on the low end. Includes mentoring from Boeing employees. Embry-Riddle does not say how it interacts with merit, so ask financial aid before counting on both.

🕵
Who Actually Wins
Most winners: Seniors who are still active on a team and can show what they built or led. Each pool is tied to one activity, so a student who competes in one of these programs faces far fewer applicants than in a general scholarship.

❓ Flagship / Competitive Scholarship FAQs

Does Embry-Riddle Prescott offer full-tuition or full-ride scholarships?
Not through a published competition. The largest awards are automatic merit, and Embry-Riddle doesn’t publish those amounts. Full-tuition money at Prescott mostly comes from outside, like ROTC scholarships.

What is the Boeing Scholars Program?
A two-year scholarship for new students heading into aviation careers, especially aeronautical science. It pays $5,000 to $7,500 a year for two years and comes with mentoring from Boeing employees. Year two renews with a 3.0 GPA.

When is the Boeing Scholars deadline?
March 15 of the year your student enrolls. File the FAFSA too, because financial need is part of how Embry-Riddle picks winners.

Who gets preference for Boeing Scholars at Prescott?
Women, veterans (and their spouses or dependents using GI Bill benefits), and underrepresented students with strong academics and financial need shown on the FAFSA.

Are there scholarships for VEX, FIRST Robotics or CyberPatriot students?
Yes. Embry-Riddle has separate Prescott scholarship applications for VEX, FIRST, CyberPatriot, the American Rocketry Challenge and U.S. Drone Soccer. Your student needs to be on a team now. The forms are on Embry-Riddle’s scholarship page under Special Interest.

Can competitive awards stack with merit?
Sometimes. Embry-Riddle says most institutional scholarships don’t stack, so ask the financial aid office how a Boeing or special-interest award will change the merit offer.

🧠 Parent Strategy: The Freshman-Spring Application

Embry-Riddle’s biggest pool of hidden money is its donor scholarships, hundreds of them through one application. The catch is that your student can’t apply until they have an Embry-Riddle GPA, so it doesn’t help freshman year. Here’s the play:

  1. Put a reminder on the calendar for November of freshman year, when the application opens in ERNIE.
  2. Fill in every field, not just the required ones. Many funds have narrow criteria (major, hometown, flight program, background).
  3. File the FAFSA by March 1. Some donor awards are need-based.
  4. Submit by the March 1 priority date, then do it again every year.

Parent translation: the merit award is set when your student starts, but the donor application is how families chip away at sophomore, junior and senior year. Embry-Riddle even says some of these don’t require leadership or activities, so apply anyway.

💎 Hidden Gem Scholarships

These awards aren’t automatic, and most families never hear about them. A couple only need a box checked or a phone call to the right person.

❓ Hidden Gems FAQ

How much are Embry-Riddle donor scholarships worth?
From $500 to $10,000. Your student applies once in ERNIE each year (it opens in November, priority date March 1), and selected awards are paid the next fall and spring.

Is there a discount for children of Embry-Riddle alumni?
Yes. The Alumni Legacy Grant is $1,500 a year, renewable for up to four years, for students whose parent graduated from Embry-Riddle. Just list the alumni parent on the admission application.

What if we just know an Embry-Riddle graduate?
That can be worth $1,000 a year. The Alumni Endorsement Grant goes to new students endorsed by any Embry-Riddle alum, family or not. In aviation, that’s often a flight instructor, airline pilot or engineer. The fall 2027 deadline is August 1, 2027.

Does Embry-Riddle add money for ROTC scholarship winners?
Yes. Air Force ROTC national scholarship winners are guaranteed at least $8,500 a year in Embry-Riddle aid, or their merit award if that’s higher. Three- and four-year Army ROTC winners get room and board help from Embry-Riddle. Prescott hosts both Air Force and Army ROTC.

Does Embry-Riddle Prescott take the Yellow Ribbon Program?
Embry-Riddle has a Prescott Yellow Ribbon form for eligible students using Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits, but it hasn’t posted 2026-2027 amounts. Contact the Prescott veterans services office before counting on a number.

Can my student use these for flight training?
Usually not. ROTC money and Embry-Riddle merit can’t be used for flight costs. If donor or outside money leaves extra aid after tuition, fees, housing and food, that extra can go toward flying.

Honors at Embry-Riddle Prescott

Here’s the honest picture. Prescott has had an Honors Program: Embry-Riddle’s student research archive describes honors advising, small honors classes, and funding for research, leadership and service projects. But Embry-Riddle’s current website lists honors programs only for its Daytona Beach and Worldwide campuses. It publishes nothing for Prescott: no admission profile, no application, no deadline and no honors scholarship.

Honors FAQs (Embry-Riddle Prescott)

Does Embry-Riddle Prescott have an honors college?
Not a separate honors college. Prescott has had an Honors Program, but Embry-Riddle doesn’t currently publish how to get in. Ask admissions directly.

Is there an honors scholarship at Prescott?
None is published. At Embry-Riddle, the top students are recognized through the automatic merit award, which includes Embry-Riddle’s highest Golden Eagle and Diamond Eagle scholarships.

Where can high-achieving students find extra opportunities?
Undergraduate research, the Golden Eagles Flight Team, and Prescott’s intelligence and cyber programs are where ambitious students tend to stand out. Those experiences also help with the donor scholarship application later.

⭐ College Specialty

Embry-Riddle Prescott isn’t trying to be everything. It’s a campus of about 3,200 students in the high country between Phoenix and the Grand Canyon, and nearly every major connects to flying, building aircraft, protecting systems or studying space. If your student already knows they want one of those careers, few schools are this focused.

Nationally Known Program:
Aerospace Engineering: U.S. News ranks Prescott’s undergraduate aerospace engineering program #1 in the nation among schools without a Ph.D. program (2027 edition). It’s the anchor of a College of Engineering that also offers mechanical, electrical, computer and software engineering.
  • Flight Training (Aeronautical Science): Students train in Arizona’s wide-open, mostly clear airspace, and the Golden Eagles Flight Team has won 16 national championships, making it the most decorated college flight team in the country.
  • Security, Intelligence and Cyber: Prescott is home to the nation’s first College of Business, Security and Intelligence. The Global Security and Intelligence Studies degree feeds federal agency careers, and the Cyber Intelligence and Security degree is ABET-accredited at a campus the NSA and Homeland Security recognize for cyber defense education.
  • Space and Science: Space Physics, Astronomy and Forensic Biology use an on-campus observatory complex, a planetarium and a forensic science lab. Embry-Riddle also describes its Aviation Psychology degree as the only one of its kind.
  • Aviation Business and Weather: Aviation Business Administration and Applied Meteorology give students a way into the industry without becoming pilots or engineers.
  • Military-Friendly Campus: Prescott hosts Air Force and Army ROTC and ranks #1 in the West for veterans in U.S. News (2027).

✅ Wrapping It Up

Big picture? Embry-Riddle Prescott is a specialist, and it prices like one. If your student wants to fly, design aircraft, or work in intelligence or cyber security, it’s one of the most focused places in the country to do it, with a #1-ranked aerospace engineering program and the most decorated flight team in college aviation.

The money side takes more homework than most schools. Merit is automatic, but the amounts are a secret until the letter arrives, and the money goes to whoever applies first. Future pilots need a separate plan for $20,000 or more a year in flight costs that scholarships mostly can’t touch. The families who come out ahead apply early in senior year, send strong test scores, grab the small stuff (Boeing Scholars, robotics and cyber awards, the alumni grants), and fill out the donor application every year starting freshman spring.
