💰 Cost of Attendance at Trevecca Nazarene University 2026-2027
📅 2027–2028 Planning Note: The costs below reflect the most recently published figures (2026–2027). Universities typically finalize the next year’s rates in the spring, and we’ll update this page once official 2027–2028 numbers are released.
Planning tip: At large public universities, tuition, fees, and housing usually increase modestly each year (often in the 2–5% range). For early budgeting, families may want to plan for roughly $1,000–$1,500 more in-state or $2,000–$3,000 more out-of-state in total direct costs once new rates are published.

Average Federal Net Price: $18,035 — this is what families actually paid after grants and scholarships (no loans), based on the most recent federal data. Your specific cost could be significantly lower or higher depending on your financial aid eligibility and merit scholarships. New to Net Price & SAI? Read our guide.
One Price for Everybody
Trevecca is a private university, so there is no in-state or out-of-state split. A family in Tullahoma and a family in Ohio see the same $35,650 tuition and fees line. That also means there is no reciprocity program and no out-of-state waiver to chase here. The way you lower the price at Trevecca is merit and need-based aid, not residency.
💡 How Trevecca Bills Tuition (Worth Understanding)
Trevecca uses “blocked” tuition. Anywhere between 12 and 18 credit hours costs the same flat $17,050 per semester, so a student taking 16 hours pays exactly what a student taking 12 hours pays. Below 12 hours you get billed per credit at $1,300, and Trevecca lists a separate $1,190 per credit hour rate at 19 or more hours.
Parent translation: hours 13 through 18 are effectively free. If your student is trying to graduate in three and a half years or double major, that block is where the savings live. But scholarships also require a minimum of 12 hours every semester, so dropping to 11 hours to lighten a load can quietly cost you the entire award for that term. Confirm how overload hours above 18 are billed before registering for them.
FAQ — Cost of Attendance at Trevecca Nazarene University
What does Trevecca actually cost for 2026-2027?
Trevecca publishes $34,100 in tuition plus a $1,550 student resource fee, which is $35,650 in direct academic charges. Add $5,200 in housing and $6,200 in board and the published total for a residential student is $47,050. Those are the university’s own numbers for the 2026-2027 year, not an estimate.
Why is the average net price so much lower than $47,050?
Because almost nobody pays sticker. Roughly nine out of ten Trevecca students receive institutional aid, and the automatic academic scholarship alone runs $6,000 to $14,000 a year before you add federal Pell, Tennessee HOPE, or any departmental award. The federal net price figure reflects what families actually paid after grants and scholarships. It is also a lagging number pulled from an earlier year, so run Trevecca’s Net Price Calculator for a figure that matches today’s tuition.
Do out-of-state students pay more at Trevecca?
No. Private universities charge one rate regardless of where you live, so a student from Georgia or Indiana pays the same $35,650 as a student from Nashville. The tradeoff is that there is no residency discount to earn later either.
Does Trevecca participate in the Academic Common Market or any tuition reciprocity program?
No. Those programs reduce out-of-state rates at public universities, and Trevecca is private with a flat rate. Tennessee students should still pay close attention to state aid, because the HOPE Scholarship and the Tennessee Student Assistance Award both apply at Trevecca and both stack on top of institutional merit.
Are books and transportation included in that total?
No. Trevecca bills tuition, fees, housing and board directly. Books, travel and personal spending are indirect costs the university estimates separately, at roughly $2,830 in miscellaneous expenses and $1,100 in transportation for a student living on campus. Budget for those on top of the $47,050.
Will the price go up each year?
Historically yes. Trevecca’s total direct cost moved from $44,400 in 2025-2026 to $47,050 in 2026-2027, roughly a 6% increase. Your automatic academic scholarship, meanwhile, is locked at the dollar amount you were awarded as an entering student. That gap widens a little every year, which is the single most important thing to model before you sign anything.
Can a scholarship ever pay me back in cash?
No. Trevecca states plainly that institutional scholarships apply only to tuition, fees, food and housing, and can never generate a credit balance. If your awards exceed your bill, the excess disappears rather than arriving as a refund check.

📅 Trevecca Scholarship Timeline (Simple Version)
- October: FAFSA opens. Tennessee state aid is first-come, first-served until the money runs out, so file now rather than in spring. Trevecca’s school code is 003526.
- January 31: Music and worship audition applications close. This is the earliest hard deadline on the calendar.
- February 19, 2027: J.O. McClurkan full-tuition application due.
- February 21: Communications LEAD scholarship applications close (dramatic arts, film and media, journalism).
- February: Endowed scholarship applications become available. Ask for them.
- March 5, 2027: McClurkan Day on campus, by invitation only.
- Mid-March: Trevecca Scholars Program application and recommendation letter due for Metro Nashville students.
- April national test date: Last sitting Trevecca will count toward raising an academic award.
Notice that admission itself has no deadline. Trevecca is rolling. Every date on this list is a money date, which is exactly why families miss them.
Automatic Merit Scholarships — Trevecca Nazarene University
Trevecca publishes a plain academic scholarship grid, which means you can estimate your student’s award before you ever apply. There is no separate scholarship form and no essay. Submit the application, send the transcript, and if you want the higher tiers, send a test score. The award is attached to the admission offer.

You can only hold one Trevecca academic scholarship per semester, so this does not stack with the other named tiers or with the McClurkan award. It can sit alongside federal and Tennessee state aid.
💡
Strategic Detail
Trevecca's largest automatic academic scholarship. You do not apply for it - it is attached to your admission offer based on your test score and unweighted high school GPA. The award is $14,000 a year, paid out in two equal halves across fall and spring. To keep it you need a 3.0 cumulative GPA at Trevecca and at least 12 credit hours each semester, and it runs for a maximum of eight full-time semesters. Heads up that the published amounts are still labeled effective Fall 2025 and had not been refreshed for the 2026-2027 year as of this audit, so confirm the figure with financial aid before you count on it.
🕵
Who Actually Wins
This is the top of the automatic ladder and it is a real reach. A 32 ACT at a school whose typical admit is well below that means only a handful of students clear it each year, and you have to submit a test score to be considered at all. If you are sitting at a 30 or 31, take the test again before April - the jump from Strickland to Dunning is $2,000 a year, or $8,000 over four years, for one more test sitting.

You need at least two full-time semesters of college after high school graduation to qualify for any transfer academic scholarship. 🕵
Who Actually Wins
A perfect 4.0 is a hard bar, and community college students who have never earned a single B are rare. But if that is you, this is $14,000 a year for coursework you have already done - the single best return on a transfer transcript at this school. Worth knowing before you take a risky final semester elsewhere, because one B can cost you $2,000 a year.

🕵
Who Actually Wins
A strong community college student with mostly A's. This is a realistic target for a disciplined transfer, and at $12,000 a year it is the same money a 28-plus ACT freshman gets - which is a reminder that two solid years at a community college can be worth as much as a great test score. If you are hovering at 3.65, one more A before you transfer moves you up a full tier.

The published grid is still marked effective Fall 2025, so verify the current amount with the financial aid office.
🕵
Who Actually Wins
A 28 to 31 ACT student who bothered to send a score. This is the sweet spot tier - genuinely achievable for a strong student without being elite, and worth $48,000 over four years. Note that this same score range is the entry ticket for the McClurkan full-tuition competition, so if you qualify for Strickland you should absolutely be filing a McClurkan application too. Students who go test-optional here leave real money behind, because without a score you top out at Speicher.

🕵
Who Actually Wins
Most winners: The solid middle-of-the-pack student, and honestly this is where a lot of Trevecca families land. A 24 ACT is right around the national average, so this $10,000 is realistic for a well-prepared but not exceptional applicant. 🕵
Who Actually Wins
This is the quiet bargain on the whole grid and most families miss it. It is the only tier with a genuine no-test path - a 3.5 unweighted GPA alone gets you $8,000 a year, no ACT required. If your kid is a steady A-minus student who tests poorly, this is your award, and you should not stress about test day. Who Actually Wins
Most winners: Essentially every admitted student with a B average. Think of this as the floor rather than a prize - if you get into Trevecca with a 3.0, you get $6,000 a year. Which means the real question is not whether you win something, it is whether you can climb a tier. Pushing your unweighted GPA to 3.5, or sitting for the ACT once and hitting 21, both move you to the $8,000 Person award.

Two Separate Ladders (This Trips People Up)
The cards above mix two different scholarship tracks. Freshmen are judged on high school GPA and test scores. Transfer students are judged only on their cumulative college GPA, with no test at all. Here they are side by side so you can find your student quickly.

Childers: 3.0+ unweighted GPA. No test needed. |
Wynkoop: 3.0+ cumulative college GPA. |
The Person Scholarship is the quiet bargain here.
It is the only tier on the freshman ladder with a genuine no-test path. A 3.5 unweighted GPA gets your student $8,000 a year with no ACT or SAT involved at all. If you have a steady A-minus student who freezes on standardized tests, stop stressing about test day and make sure that transcript is clean. Every other tier above $8,000 requires a score.
Transfer families, do the math before your last semester.
Every three-tenths of a GPA point is worth $2,000 a year, or $8,000 across a four-semester run. A student sitting at 3.45 who pulls one more A moves from Welch to Holmes. A student at 3.65 who does the same moves to Chilton. You also need two full-time semesters of college after high school graduation to qualify for any transfer academic scholarship at all.
Automatic Merit — FAQs (Trevecca Nazarene University)
Do I have to apply separately for these scholarships?
No. Apply for admission, send your transcript, and send a test score if you want the higher tiers. The award comes attached to your admission offer. There is no form, no essay and no interview.
Is Trevecca test-optional?
For admission, effectively yes. For money, no. Without a submitted score your ceiling is the $8,000 Person award through a 3.5 unweighted GPA. The Strickland and Dunning tiers, and the McClurkan full-tuition award, all require a qualifying score.
Does Trevecca superscore?
Trevecca states that ACT superscoring is accepted for scholarships. It makes no equivalent statement about the SAT, though it does allow SAT Score Choice, which lets you pick which sitting to send. Plan on single-sitting for the SAT.
Can my student retake the ACT senior year and move up a tier?
Yes, but only through the April national test date. Trevecca will not raise an academic award for a test taken after that. Given the tiers are $2,000 apart, one more sitting in February or April can be worth $8,000 over four years.
Can these awards be stacked?
No. Trevecca allows only one academic scholarship per semester, so your student receives the single highest tier they qualify for. Leadership, endowed, departmental, church-matching and athletic awards are separate categories that can layer on top, as can federal and Tennessee state aid.
Are they renewable?
Yes. Awards are split into two equal payments across the year and renew each fall as long as your student keeps a 3.0 cumulative GPA and carries at least twelve credit hours a semester. They are capped at eight full-time semesters. If a student drops below a 3.0 and loses a tier, they can earn it back by bringing the cumulative GPA back up.
What about homeschool students?
Trevecca requires that homeschool transcripts come from a registered umbrella program recognized by ACT or SAT with a CEEB code. A transcript issued and sent by a parent will require an ACT or SAT score for both admission and scholarship consideration.

Strategic Detail
Trevecca's flagship award and its most competitive, covering full tuition for incoming freshmen who stand out in academics, leadership and service. Named for the university's founder and first president. Unlike the automatic tiers, this one requires a separate application, and finalists are invited to campus for McClurkan Day, which is scheduled for Friday, March 5, 2027. Being selected to compete on McClurkan Day earns you the McClurkan scholar designation and recognition at commencement even if you are not one of the final award recipients. The application deadline is Friday, February 19, 2027. Renewal terms recorded here come from Trevecca's blanket institutional scholarship policy, which requires a 3.0 cumulative GPA, a 12-hour minimum load, and caps awards at eight full-time semesters. Trevecca's own news and blog pages cite a 29 ACT and 1330 SAT threshold, but both the scholarship page and the official financial aid grid say 28 and 1300, which is what is recorded here. Confirm with financial aid if you are right at the line.
🕵
Who Actually Wins
Be clear-eyed here - Trevecca named three McClurkan recipients for 2026. Three. Meeting the 28 ACT and 3.5 GPA bar only earns you the right to apply, and plenty of qualified students never get the McClurkan Day invitation. What separates finalists is not the transcript, it is a documented track record of service and leadership that a committee can see and ask about across an interview table. Apply if you clear the numbers, because the upside is full tuition and the application costs you an afternoon. Just do not build your college budget around winning it. Your realistic number at Trevecca is the Strickland or Dunning award you already qualify for automatically.
* GPA/test bands are estimates based on official selectivity and prior cohort profiles. 🧠 Parent Reality Check on McClurkan
Trevecca named three McClurkan recipients for 2026. Three in 2025. Three in 2024. Two in each of the two years before that. Meeting the 28 ACT and 3.5 GPA bar does not win you anything; it earns you the right to submit an application, and plenty of qualified students never receive the McClurkan Day invitation.
What separates finalists is not the transcript. It is a documented record of service and leadership that a committee can see on paper and then ask about across an interview table. Recent winners have been Eagle Scouts, club presidents, worship leaders and mission trip organizers.
Apply anyway. It costs an afternoon and the upside is full tuition. Just build your actual college budget around the Strickland or Dunning award your student already qualifies for automatically, and treat McClurkan as a bonus if it lands.
A number worth double-checking. Trevecca’s scholarship page and financial aid grid both list the McClurkan threshold as 28 ACT / 1300 SAT with a 3.5 unweighted GPA. But every news release Trevecca has published announcing winners, going back several years, says 29 ACT / 1330 SAT. If your student is sitting right at 28 or 29, call the new student financial aid office at 615-248-1523 and get the current number confirmed before you count on it.

❓ Flagship / Competitive Scholarship FAQs
When is the McClurkan deadline?
Friday, February 19, 2027. Top applicants are then invited to McClurkan Day on campus on Friday, March 5, 2027, which is by invitation only.
How many McClurkan awards are given each year?
Two or three. Trevecca named three recipients in each of 2024, 2025 and 2026, and two in the two cycles before that.
What happens at McClurkan Day?
Your student interviews with faculty, staff and administrators, meets one on one with a professor in their intended field, and tours campus with current students. Being invited to compete earns the “McClurkan scholar” designation and recognition at commencement, even if your student is not one of the final award recipients.
Does McClurkan cover room and board?
No. It covers full tuition. With housing and board running $11,400 a year, even the biggest award at Trevecca leaves a real bill to plan for.
Can out-of-state or international students win it?
Yes. Trevecca specifically tells international applicants that McClurkan is the one full-tuition award available to them, and recent winners have come from Florida, Alabama, Indiana and Kansas as well as Tennessee.
Is Trevecca a Stamps, QuestBridge or National Merit partner?
No to all three. Trevecca does not participate in those programs, so National Merit Finalist status carries no automatic package here.
What should my student prepare?
A service and leadership record they can talk about out loud, not just list. Our Essay Toolkit and Brag Sheet Builder are built for exactly this kind of organizing.

🧠 Parent Strategy: Trevecca Publishes the List Nobody Reads
Most universities keep their endowed scholarship funds behind a portal. Trevecca posts roughly one hundred of them publicly, by name, with the donor’s criteria spelled out, at
trevecca.edu/give/endowed-scholarships.
It sits under the “Give” section of the site, which is why almost no applicant family ever finds it.
- Read the list in the fall, before applications open.
- Write down every fund whose criteria you match by major, home state, home church, family circumstance or GPA.
- Applications become available in February each year. Ask the new student financial aid office in January how to apply for the specific funds on your list.
- Name the funds in your email. Vague requests get vague answers.

Trevecca limits adult and graduate students to one institutional scholarship per semester, so this does not combine with other Trevecca awards like the military or first responder scholarships. You would take whichever is worth more.
📄
How to Apply
Apply through Trevecca's scholarship application page and be ready to document your Phi Theta Kappa membership from your community college.
💡
Strategic Detail
A $500 per semester award, so $1,000 across a normal academic year, for community college students who are Phi Theta Kappa members and are enrolling as undergraduates in Trevecca's Adult Studies area. Note that Trevecca allows adult and graduate students only one institutional scholarship per semester, and institutional aid is only awarded for the first attempt at a course.
🕵
Who Actually Wins
Community college students who joined Phi Theta Kappa and are heading into Trevecca's Adult Studies programs. If you were invited to PTK and paid the membership fee, this is $1,000 a year you already earned - and a lot of people forget they are even members. Dig out that certificate. The catch worth understanding is Trevecca's one-scholarship-per-semester rule for adult students, so compare this against anything else you qualify for and take the larger one.

📄
How to Apply
Submit the online music scholarship application by January 31, then audition. The audition covers a theory diagnostic, applied lesson audition and a piano audition, and it doubles as your entrance audition for the department. You can audition in person or send a video, though video applicants may be asked to audition again at new student orientation.
💡
Strategic Detail
Scholarships from the School of Music and Worship Arts for music majors, judged on musical ability, academic potential and the school's needs. They can be renewed each year. One application covers the school's music and worship tracks, both of which carry a January 31 deadline. The same audition satisfies both scholarship and departmental entrance requirements. Trevecca does not publish a dollar amount for this award anywhere on its site. For context, the financial aid grid lists departmental awards generally at $1,000 to $3,000 a year, but that figure is not stated for this specific scholarship and should not be assumed. Contact the School of Music at music2@trevecca.edu or 615-248-1288 for current amounts.
🕵
Who Actually Wins
Music and worship majors who prepare a real audition. This is not a participation award - it is judged on musical ability alongside academic potential and the school's own needs, which in practice means they fund the instruments and voice parts they are short on that year. If you play something the ensembles need, your odds go up. The January 31 deadline lands well before most families are thinking about scholarships, so put it on the calendar in the fall. Trevecca does not publish dollar amounts for this one, so call the School of Music at 615-248-1288 and ask what a typical award looks like before you plan around it.

Strategic Detail
A scholarship built specifically for students from twelve participating Metro Nashville public high schools, covering full tuition, required fees and books through a combination of federal, state and Trevecca aid. Up to 25 students receive it each year. Housing and meal plans are not covered, so if you plan to live on campus you will still have room and board to pay. Eligible high schools are Antioch, Cane Ridge, Glencliff, Hillsboro, Hunters Lane, James Lawson, Maplewood, McGavock, Overton, Pearl Cohn Magnet, Stratford STEM Magnet and Whites Creek. Note that the dates published on Trevecca's page are for the cycle that just closed and had not been rolled forward for 2026-2027 as of this audit. The program repeats annually, so use those dates as a guide and confirm the current year's calendar with the new student financial aid office.
🕵
Who Actually Wins
If you go to one of the twelve listed Metro Nashville high schools, stop and read this twice. The academic bar is low on purpose - a 3.0 GPA or a 21 ACT or a 1060 SAT, and you only need one of the three. There are up to 25 seats a year. That combination of a wide door and a large prize is genuinely unusual, and the students who miss out mostly miss out on paperwork, not merit - they skip the FAFSA, or never schedule the campus interview. The interview is described as a casual conversation with no preparation needed. Do not let that one stop you. If you are an MNPS student, this is the single most valuable thing on this page for you.

A $2,000 to $4,000 annual award recognizing leadership and service, offered to both incoming freshmen and transfer students. Trevecca describes it as based on leadership and service-related involvements, achievements, and academic success. Amounts come from the aid grid still published as effective Fall 2025.
🕵
Who Actually Wins
The student who was actually running things in high school - class officer, team captain, mission trip leader, the one the youth pastor calls first. Trevecca is a service-minded campus and it puts real money behind that, but at $2,000 to $4,000 this is a supplement, not a game-changer. The practical move is to make sure your leadership record is visible on your application rather than buried, and to ask about it directly. Awards you have to ask about are the ones most families never get.

This is a match on outside money rather than a Trevecca academic award, so it adds to your package. The scholarship is split evenly across the semesters in the academic year.
💡
Strategic Detail
If your church donates toward your tuition, Trevecca matches it. The financial aid grid lists the combined value at $1,000, which is a $500 church gift plus a $500 Trevecca match. You must be enrolled full time in an undergraduate program, and the check has to come to Trevecca directly from the donating church. The award is divided equally across the semesters in the academic year. One thing to verify before you count on it - Trevecca's adult aid page says the university will double any donation up to $500 for members of a participating Nazarene church in the Southeast region, but the same page also says Trevecca's matching portion will not exceed $500 per academic year. Those two statements do not reconcile, so ask financial aid to confirm the exact match for your situation.
🕵
Who Actually Wins
Any student whose home church is willing to write a check - and a lot of churches have a small scholarship fund sitting unused because nobody ever asks. This is the most overlooked line on Trevecca's whole aid page. One conversation with your pastor can turn into $1,000 a year, which is $4,000 across a degree. If your church is a Nazarene congregation in the Southeast region, ask specifically about the doubled match, because that is where the numbers on Trevecca's own pages get confusing and worth pinning down in writing.

A pool of roughly 100 donor-funded endowed scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 a year, awarded on financial need and on the specific directives written by the donor who created each fund. Available to both freshmen and transfer students. Trevecca publishes the complete list publicly, organized by department: business, communication studies, education, English, exercise and sport science, music, physician assistant, religion and philosophy, science and mathematics, social and behavioral sciences, plus a large general category and separate centers for social justice and worship arts. Applications become available in February each year. Endowed awards are credited in the first semester, require full-time enrollment of twelve hours, and like academic scholarships are capped at four years total. The $1,000 to $5,000 range comes from the aid grid still marked effective Fall 2025.
🕵
Who Actually Wins
Donors write oddly specific rules, and Trevecca publishes every one of them, which almost nobody reads. There are funds tied to South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky, the Appalachian region, the North Florida and North Alabama districts, and to single congregations in Rocky Mount NC, Huntsville AL and Bradenton FL. There are funds for students whose family is facing a life-threatening illness, for women whose education was interrupted by addiction or adversity, for children of missionaries, for children of alumni, and for students with physical limitations. Physics majors have three separate funds competing for them. Some GPA floors sit at 2.0 or 2.5. Nobody matches every fund, but almost everybody matches something. Who Actually Wins
Students who are already serious about theatre and can show it. Trevecca's aid grid says departmental awards are decided by interview, audition and election, so expect to perform or present rather than just submit a form. It is awarded at the end of each semester and applied to whatever balance is not already covered by VA payments or federal and state grants. The funds are meant to help with tuition, fees and books, and no credit balance is created, so you will not receive it as cash back. An application is required.
🕵
Who Actually Wins
Most winners: Service members, veterans, spouses and dependents under 24 in Trevecca's non-traditional programs. The ten percent is modest and it is a last-dollar award, so if your VA benefits already cover tuition you may see little or nothing from it. Where it earns its keep is the gap - the fees, the books, the balance benefits do not reach. Trevecca also accepts GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon benefits, so the real conversation is with the financial aid office about how everything layers together.

Strategic Detail
Full tuition for students accepted into Trevecca's online BA in Christian Ministry who hold a local or district license in the Church of the Nazarene, are pursuing ordination, and live or work on the Southeast Field. Read the coverage carefully - it applies only to tuition, and only to the core Christian Ministry courses. Elective classes, books and fees are not included, so this is not a full ride and not even full tuition across your whole degree. Awards are by application only and spaces are limited, and Trevecca states that not every qualifying applicant will receive one. Ordained students seeking continuing education coursework may be considered if class space allows.
🕵
Who Actually Wins
Licensed Nazarene ministers on the Southeast Field who are working toward ordination and need the degree to get there. If that describes you, this is the most valuable thing on Trevecca's aid pages, full stop - it covers tuition on your core ministry coursework. Two things to be honest about. Spaces are limited and Trevecca says plainly that not everyone who qualifies will receive it, so apply early rather than assuming. And the coverage stops at the core Christian Ministry classes, so you are still paying for electives, books and fees. Budget for those.
* GPA/test bands are estimates based on official selectivity and prior cohort profiles. "Who Actually Wins" insights are pulled from external peer-sourced data where students and parents have reported real-world award results. Because colleges can change funding thresholds and deadlines at any time, always verify these details with the institution before finalizing your application strategy.
📚 What Is Actually In the Endowed Fund List
Some real examples, to show you how specific donor criteria get:
- By home state or region: South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky, the Appalachian region, the North Florida and North Alabama districts, and even individual congregations in Rocky Mount NC, Huntsville AL and Bradenton FL.
- By circumstance: funds for students whose family is facing a life-threatening illness, for women whose education was interrupted by addiction or adversity, for children of missionaries, for children of alumni, and for students with physical limitations.
- By major: accounting, business, communication studies, dramatic arts, education, special education, English, history, psychology, social work, biology, chemistry, nursing, math, computer science, physician assistant, worship arts, social justice, and organ or stringed instrument study.
- Physics majors have three separate funds competing for a very small number of students. If that is your kid, read this list first.
- Some GPA floors sit at 2.0 or 2.5, which means a solid but unspectacular student can still match several funds.
Endowed awards run $1,000 to $5,000 a year, are credited in the first semester, require twelve hours of enrollment, and are capped at four years like the academic tiers.
💰 The Church Matching Scholarship is the most overlooked line on the whole page.
If your church writes a check to Trevecca on your student’s behalf, Trevecca matches it. A $500 gift becomes $1,000, which is $4,000 across a degree. A lot of congregations have a small scholarship fund sitting unused because nobody ever asks.
One wrinkle to pin down in writing: Trevecca’s adult aid page says it will double any donation up to $500 for members of a participating Nazarene church in the Southeast region, while the same page also caps Trevecca’s match at $500 per academic year. Their own payment worksheet describes a 1-to-1 match up to $500 for all other churches. Ask financial aid to confirm the exact match for your congregation before you plan around it. The check must come to Trevecca directly from the church, not passed through your family.
🏀 Athletic Scholarships (Not in the Cards Above)
Trevecca competes in NCAA Division II in the Gulf South Conference as the Trojans, and its published aid grid lists athletic scholarships at “varies,” set by skill and by the individual program. Amounts are determined by the coach in conjunction with the financial aid office, not by a published formula, so there is nothing to look up. If your student is being recruited, the conversation happens with the coach.
Worth knowing: several endowed funds in the published list are earmarked specifically for student athletes, including basketball. Those are separate money from the athletic award itself, and a coach may not think to mention them.
🗓️ Two Deadlines That Land Before Most Families Are Thinking About Money
- January 31 for the School of Music and Worship Arts. One application covers both the music and worship tracks, and the same audition doubles as your entrance audition for the department. You can audition in person or send a video, though video applicants may be asked to audition again at orientation. Trevecca publishes no dollar amount for these, so call 615-248-1288 or email music2@trevecca.edu and ask what a typical award looks like.
- February 21 for the three Department of Communications LEAD scholarships (dramatic arts, film and media arts, journalism). Trevecca publishes only the deadline and a downloadable form for these, with no amount, criteria or selection process listed. The general aid grid puts departmental awards at $1,000 to $3,000 a year, but that figure is not stated for these specific awards. Call the department in January.
❓ Hidden Gems FAQ
Do these stack with my automatic academic scholarship?
Generally yes for traditional undergraduates. The one-scholarship-per-semester rule applies to Trevecca’s academic tiers specifically, and departmental, endowed, leadership and church-matching awards sit in different categories. Adult and graduate students face a stricter rule: one institutional scholarship per semester, period, including military and athletic awards.
Where do I actually apply for an endowed scholarship?
There is no single portal. Trevecca says endowed scholarship applications become available in February each year. The practical move is to read the published fund list, identify your matches, then contact the Office of New Student Financial Aid at newstudentfinaid@trevecca.edu or 615-248-1523 and ask by name.
Do I need to file the FAFSA even if I do not expect need-based aid?
Yes. Trevecca explicitly encourages every student to complete the FAFSA to be considered for institutional scholarships, and many endowed funds are awarded partly on demonstrated need. Trevecca’s school code is 003526.
What if I am a transfer or adult student?
Several awards are built for you. Phi Theta Kappa members entering Adult Studies get $500 per semester. Students at the Motlow State campus receive $1,000 after finishing their first class. First responders and military students, including veterans, spouses and dependents under 24, receive up to ten percent of tuition. The BML endowment for the Management and Leadership degree weighs work and life experience rather than a recent transcript.
Are any of these full tuition?
Two. The Trevecca Scholars Program covers full tuition, fees and books for up to 25 students a year from twelve participating Metro Nashville public high schools, though not housing or meals. The Nazarene Pastor Scholarship covers tuition on the core Christian Ministry classes in the online BA for licensed ministers on the Southeast Field, with electives, books and fees excluded. Both are narrow doors, but if you fit either one, nothing else on this page matters as much.
How will I know if I won something?
Institutional awards appear on your official offer of aid, which Trevecca mails after your admission requirements are complete. Departmental and endowed awards are often communicated by the department or the financial aid office separately, which is another reason to ask rather than wait.

Honors at Trevecca: What Exists Instead
Let us be straightforward, because this is where a lot of college pages get vague. Trevecca does not have an honors college or a named honors program. There is no separate honors application, no honors dorm, no honors curriculum, and no honors scholarship track. If your student is specifically shopping for an honors college experience, that is a real point of difference between Trevecca and a larger public university.
What Trevecca offers high achievers instead is a different structure: a small campus where the recognition is personal rather than programmatic.
Where High Achievers Actually Land at Trevecca
- McClurkan Scholar status. This is the closest thing Trevecca has to an honors designation. Students invited to compete at McClurkan Day carry the “McClurkan scholar” title through their four years and receive special recognition at commencement, whether or not they win the full-tuition award itself.
- Undergraduate research. Trevecca runs a student research symposium, now named in honor of longtime psychology professor Dr. Randy Carden. For a school of roughly 1,900 undergraduates, that is meaningful access to faculty-mentored research that would be competitive to get at a larger institution.
- Class size. Roughly 55% of Trevecca classes enroll fewer than twenty students, with a 20:1 student-faculty ratio. The small-seminar experience that honors colleges are built to manufacture is closer to the default here.
- Department-level recognition. The endowed fund list includes awards decided by faculty recommendation within a department, meaning your student’s professors have direct influence over money.
Department-Based Aid (The Real Substitute for Honors Money)
- Music & Worship Arts: audition-based awards, renewable annually, January 31 deadline. Judged on musical ability, academic potential, and what the ensembles need that year.
- Communications: three LEAD scholarships for dramatic arts, film and media arts, and journalism. February 21 deadline.
- Sciences: dedicated endowed funds for physics (three separate ones), chemistry, biology and nursing, several restricted to incoming freshmen.
- Education: one of the deepest endowed pools on campus, including funds specifically for early education and special education concentrations.
- Theology & Ministry: the Millard Reed School of Theology and Christian Ministry administers a large set of ministerial funds, including the Skinner Family endowment, which alone provides ten scholarships a year for students preparing for full-time Christian service.
Honors — FAQs (Trevecca Nazarene University)
Does Trevecca have an honors college?
No. Trevecca does not operate an honors college or a designated honors program for undergraduates. Any third-party site listing one is likely confusing Trevecca with another institution or referencing an academic honor society chapter, which is a different thing.
So is there any recognition for top students?
Yes, primarily through McClurkan scholar status and department-level awards. Trevecca also recognizes academic achievement at commencement and through faculty-selected departmental scholarships.
If my student wants an honors experience, should they look elsewhere?
It depends on what they want from it. If the appeal is priority registration, an honors thesis requirement and a cohort structure, then yes, a larger university will serve them better. If the appeal is small classes, faculty who know their name, and access to research, Trevecca delivers those without requiring an honors application to unlock them.
Does Trevecca have Phi Theta Kappa or other honor societies?
Trevecca recognizes Phi Theta Kappa membership from community college with a $500 per semester transfer scholarship in its Adult Studies programs. That is a financial award tied to prior membership rather than an honors program at Trevecca itself.
Does skipping honors cost my student scholarship money?
No, and this is actually a simplification in your favor. At schools with honors colleges, the biggest awards are often locked behind a separate honors application with its own deadline. At Trevecca the academic money is on a published grid and requires no application at all.

⭐ College Specialty
Trevecca is a Christian university of about 1,900 undergraduates sitting on a ninety-acre campus less than two miles from downtown Nashville. It has been there since 1901, which makes 2026 its 125th year. The Nashville location is not a footnote. It shapes what Trevecca is genuinely good at, because a music city with a major healthcare industry and a dense nonprofit sector gives a small school internship access that a comparable college in a rural county simply cannot match.
Nationally Known Program:
Physician Assistant Studies — Trevecca’s PA program is the credential the university is most recognized for outside Tennessee, and the school backs it with dedicated endowed scholarships including one honoring the program’s founding director. For undergraduates, this matters as a pipeline rather than a major: strong biology and chemistry students at Trevecca are building toward a graduate program that already exists on their own campus, with faculty they will already know.
- School of Music and Worship Arts: in Nashville, this is the program to take seriously. Trevecca runs both traditional music and worship arts tracks, funds them through audition-based scholarships with a January 31 deadline, and maintains endowed funds specific to organ, strings, piano and vocal performance. The Center for Worship Arts gives it a professional identity most small-college music departments do not have.
- Nursing: a direct pipeline into one of the largest healthcare employment markets in the Southeast, with its own endowed scholarship support.
- Business Administration: consistently among the most popular undergraduate paths at Trevecca, with a deep bench of endowed funds for business and accounting majors specifically, including several restricted to sophomores and above.
- Theology & Christian Ministry: the Millard Reed School of Theology and Christian Ministry is the founding purpose of the institution and remains the most heavily endowed area on campus. If your student is headed toward ministry, the number of funds available here is genuinely unusual for a school this size.
- Education: a large teacher preparation program with one of the deepest scholarship pools at the university, including funds targeted at early childhood and special education.
- Psychology & Social Sciences: among Trevecca’s most popular majors, supported by an active undergraduate research culture and a named research symposium.
- Social Work & Social Justice: Trevecca runs a Center for Social Justice with its own scholarship fund for students majoring or minoring in the field, which is a distinctive commitment for a school of this size.
The honest summary: Trevecca is not competing on research prestige or national rankings. What it offers is a small, faith-centered campus with unusually direct faculty access, placed in a city that supplies the internships and connections. Families choose it for fit and for cost, and the aid structure is built to make that second part work.

✅ Wrapping It Up
Trevecca is one of the more honest small private universities to price out, because it puts the whole academic scholarship grid on a public page. You can sit at the kitchen table with a transcript and a test score and know your number before you ever apply. A 3.0 gets $6,000. A 3.5 gets $8,000 with no test at all. A 28 ACT gets $12,000. That transparency is worth a lot.
But read the ceiling carefully. The top automatic award is $14,000 against $35,650 in tuition and fees, and Trevecca’s published grid has not been refreshed since Fall 2025 while the price rose about 6%. Full tuition exists here, but through exactly two narrow doors: the McClurkan award, which goes to two or three students a year, and the Trevecca Scholars Program, which only twelve Metro Nashville high schools can access. Neither covers housing or meals. Plan on the automatic tier your student already qualifies for and treat anything above it as a bonus.
The real leverage at Trevecca is in three places most families never touch. One, that endowed scholarship list buried under the “Give” tab, with a hundred named funds and criteria specific enough that almost every student matches something. Two, the church matching scholarship, where one conversation with a pastor turns into $1,000 a year. Three, the April test date, which is the last chance to move up a $2,000 tier. None of those happen automatically. All three require someone to ask.
If your student is drawn to a small Christian campus, wants faculty who know their name, and is heading toward ministry, music, nursing, education or the health professions, Trevecca puts real money behind that and puts it in Nashville. Just build the budget on the guaranteed number, file the FAFSA in October, and start asking questions in January.
