These are Delta State’s officially published 2025-2026 rates. As of this update, the university has not yet posted 2026-2027 tuition, and their admitted students page said new rates would be released at the end of the spring 2026 term. We will swap these figures the moment official numbers appear.

Why we are not worried about it: Delta State charged the exact same tuition in 2024-2025 as it did in 2025-2026. Not a dollar of increase. That is unusual, and it means the figures above are a far safer planning number than a stale sheet at most schools would be. Budget for a modest bump and you will likely be fine.

They are the same number. That is the whole Delta State pitch in one line. There is no out-of-state premium at the undergraduate level, so a student from Texas, Illinois or Alabama pays Mississippi resident rates from day one, with no application, no approved-major list and no residency clock. Roughly $17,800 a year in direct costs, before a dollar of scholarship money, no matter where your mail goes.

The one exception: international students pay an additional $500 per semester on top of the standard rate.

The $9,184 figure is a standard double room plus the All Access meal plan, which freshmen and sophomores living on campus are required to take. Housing runs from $2,000 a semester at Blansett Hall up to $2,625 at Foundation Hall, and a single room roughly doubles the room cost. If your student ends up in a cheaper hall, this number comes down.

• August 1: Admission application opens.
• November 1: Scholarship application season opens in OSMS. The Statesman application window opens the same day.
• December 1: The date that matters most. All required admission documents due, and the FAFSA due.
• January 15: Statesman application closes. Any requested supporting documentation due.
• Late January: Academic scholarships are decided.
• February 1: Academic award notices go out.
• Mid-February: Departmental scholarships open inside OSMS. This is a second round, and most families do not know it exists.
• July 1: Departmental award notices go out.

Parent rule of thumb: you have seven days to accept any scholarship offer after the email hits. Miss the window and the award can be pulled and given to someone else. Tell your student to actually read their Delta State email.

Look at the gap between a 23 and a 24 on the ACT. That one point moves your student from $2,250 a year to $4,500 a year. Over four years it is roughly $9,000. The jump from 26 to 27 is worth about another $7,800 across four years. If your student is sitting one or two points below a tier line, sign them up for one more test date. Nowhere else in the college process does a Saturday morning pay like that.

One Statesman award a year sounds impossible. It is not, and here is why. At a flagship, a full ride draws thousands of applicants. Delta State enrolls roughly 2,700 students total, and the pool willing to sit down and write three real essays is measured in dozens. Add the four Magnolia awards drawn from the same pool and you have five funded outcomes from one application. A student with a 3.9 and a 30 who writes honestly about their community has a meaningfully better shot here than at any comparable award in Mississippi.

1. How your educational goals line up with Delta State’s mission, and how this scholarship would let you make a real impact after graduation.
2. A challenge or obstacle that shaped who you are, what you learned, and how it will guide what you contribute on campus.
3. Design a project that would improve life in the Mississippi Delta or your home community. Describe the idea, the impact, and the steps to actually make it happen.

❓ Flagship / Competitive Scholarship FAQs

When is the Statesman scholarship deadline?
The application is open November 1 through January 15 for the following fall. Supporting documents were due by the end of January in the most recent cycle. Because there is exactly one award, treat January 15 as immovable.

What does the Statesman Freshman Scholarship actually cover?
One hundred percent of tuition, plus room, board, the Student Activity Fee, the Campus Improvement Fee and the First Day Ready Fee, for eight semesters. That is a genuine full ride, not a full-tuition award dressed up as one.

What are the requirements?
A 3.75 cumulative GPA and a 28 ACT or 1300 SAT, superscored. To keep it: 24 credit hours a year, a 3.0 Delta State GPA, and continuous full-time enrollment.

Is the Magnolia scholarship automatic or competitive?
We list it as competitive, deliberately. Delta State’s own materials say both things in different places, but the award is capped at four students a year and drawn from the top Statesman applicants. A 3.75 and a 28 does not guarantee it. Submit the Statesman application so your student is in the pool, and call financial aid at 662-846-4670 if you want it confirmed for your cycle.

Is there a transfer version?
Yes, and it is arguably the better value. The Statesman Transfer Scholarship is a full ride for four semesters, one award per year, requiring a 3.75. A student finishing an associate degree with a strong transcript is competing against a very thin field for it.

Is Delta State a Stamps or National Merit partner?
No to both. Delta State does not participate in the Stamps Scholars program and does not offer a National Merit package. The Statesman is the top of the ladder here.

🧠 Parent Strategy: The 400 Scholarships Nobody Applies For

Delta State’s scholarship portal, the Okra Scholarship Management System, holds roughly 400 individual departmental and donor scholarships. Completing the general application matches your student to some of them automatically. But many still require clicking “Apply Now” on each award individually, and that is where most families stop.

1. Get admitted, then log into OSMS and finish the general application.
2. Filter by your student’s college and major, and apply to every award that fits.
3. Look for awards tied to a county, a hometown or a donor family. A nursing student from Bolivar County will find scholarships written almost specifically for them.
4. Come back in mid-February. Departmental scholarships open in a second round after the academic awards are done. Notices go out July 1.
5. Respond to every offer within seven days. Screenshot the confirmation.

Parent translation: a lot of this money goes underclaimed because nobody applies. One evening in the portal after admission is probably the highest hourly rate your student will ever earn.

The FedEx Purple Runway award is $10,000 a year, the largest departmental scholarship on campus by a wide margin. The gate is not a GPA, it is an FAA private pilot license plus a recommendation from a Delta State aviation faculty member. FedEx funds it because they are building a pilot pipeline, and Delta State runs the only undergraduate and graduate aviation program in Mississippi’s public university system. If commercial aviation is the goal, get the license early and get to know the faculty. This one award can decide the school.

The Free Tuition Scholarship is a last-dollar guarantee: Delta State applies your Pell Grant and any earned scholarships to the tuition bill, then covers whatever is left. Roughly half of Delta State students receive Pell, so this is closer to a default than a long shot. Just know that it covers tuition, not housing or meals, and room and board runs about $9,200.

Separately, Mississippi’s own state programs (MTAG, MESG and HELP) have deadlines in September and the spring that have nothing to do with Delta State’s calendar. One catch worth knowing: MTAG requires that you are not receiving a maximum Pell Grant, so most Free Tuition students will not also get MTAG. ❓ Hidden Gems FAQ

Can these stack with my automatic merit award?
Yes, with one exception. Departmental and Foundation awards combine with the Impact, Emerald and Sunflower Road scholarships, capped at the combined cost of tuition, fees, room and board. The Statesman full ride is the only award that will not combine with anything.

Is the Free Tuition Scholarship still available for my student’s entering class?
Call and confirm. Delta State’s Free Tuition page has named different entering classes at different times, and we are not going to guess on something this important. Ask financial aid at 662-846-4670 which cohort is covered for the year your student is applying, and ask them to put it in writing.

My student is transferring from a Mississippi community college. What should they claim?
Two things. The Emerald or Magnolia Transfer award on academic performance, and the Phi Theta Kappa Catalyst Award if they are a PTK member, which adds $1,000 a year on top. If they are eligible for PTK and have not joined, the membership dues pay for themselves several times over on that arithmetic alone.

I work at a community college. Is the tuition remission real?
Yes, and it is one of the quieter bargains in Mississippi higher education. Delta State cuts tuition in half for full-time employees of any Mississippi public community college, faculty and staff alike, at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Note that it does not apply to course fees. You must submit a fresh form every single term, accepted no earlier than July 15 for fall and November 15 for spring, and no later than the last day to drop.

When will I hear about departmental awards?
July 1 for most of them. Academic scholarship notices go out February 1, which is why families assume they are finished in the spring. They are not. The departmental round opens in mid-February and decides months later.

What happens if my student ignores a scholarship email?
The offer can be withdrawn after seven days. This is the most preventable way to lose money at Delta State, and it happens every year.

That 24 ACT threshold is the same score that earns the Emerald Freshman award. So a student who qualifies for Honors almost certainly already qualifies for $4,500 a year in automatic merit, and the Honors scholarship layers on top of it. Applying to Honors costs one form and requires no new test score.

• Accelerated general education: honors students can cut required gen ed hours from 38 down to 30, with advisor and department approval. That is more than a full course off the degree.
• Early registration every semester, which at a small school means actually getting the section you need.
• Honors “enhancement” courses that attach to a class your student is already taking in their major, rather than piling on extra classes. One current nursing student describes it as supporting her major instead of adding to her stress.
• Faculty mentoring and cultural trips, plus recognition at commencement.
